Appeal after bogus cabbie robs teen of cash at knifepoint

Police are hunting a man who robbed a teenager at knifepoint after claiming to be a taxi driver.

The incident happened in St Gregory’s Road close to the junction with North Holmes Road in the early hours of Friday, August 10.

The 18-year-old victim had been out with friends and was trying to find a taxi to take him home when in the area of St George’s Street and Canterbury Lane.

He was approached by a man claiming to have a taxi and followed him to St Gregory’s Road. There the bogus cabbie produced a knife and demanded the victim hand over his money before going back towards the city centre.

The robber is white, of skinny build, aged between 16 and 20, about 6ft1 ins tall and was wearing dark-coloured trousers and shoes and a dark-coloured coat with the hood up.
