The Canterbury Mosque in Giles Lane

A man arrested for damaging the Canterbury Mosque has apologised for his actions.

Police arrested the 21-year-old in the early hours of yesterday (Thursday) morning on suspicion of criminal damage.

They were called after reports that the gates of the Giles Lane building had been damaged.

The man, who comes from Hereford, has been released without charge.

Police said the “matter is being settled by way of community resolution”. It is understood the man will also pay for the repairs to the gates.
