Whitstable lifeboat was launched to help rescue a barge which had run aground.

The 98ft vessel had suffered engine failure drifted close to shore near the Warden Springs Caravan Park on the Isle of Sheppey.

Whitstable’s lifeboat was joined by the larger Sheppey lifeboat and together they worked to tow the craft clear at just after 5am on Sunday.

The Sheppey lifeboat then towed the barge to Queenborough. There were three people on board.
