Travellers leave popular open space after legal threat

Travellers had camped on the Beverley Meadow

Travellers who have been camping on Beverley Meadow have now left.

Canterbury City Council secured a court order this morning to remove some 20 caravans and vans from the St Stephen’s green space.

The travellers first arrived on Friday night.

A council spokesman said: “The travellers camped on Beverley Meadow have left after we secured a court order this morning.

“Although there was a small amount of litter left behind which has now been cleared, the site was relatively clean. Our CCTV team is monitoring the rest of the district.”
