UPDATED: Travellers who occupied park have gone

A group of travellers whoich occupied an open area in Herne have moved on.

Canterbury City Council reported yesterday (Monday) that it had received information about the travellers’ presence at Curtis Park Wood.

A city council spokesman said shortly after their arrival: “Enforcement officers are there and have begun the process to secure their removal.”

The travellers duly moved on later in the day.

Earlier in the summer travellers occupied a portion of the Beverley Meadow in Canterbury before they moved on.

The council has vowed to take a tough line with travellers who set up illegal encampments in the district.
