Police make counter terrorism arrest

Police have today arrested a man from Kent for suspected terrorism offences.

The 26-year-old is being detained on suspicion of being concerned in the commission, preparation or instigation of acts of terrorism under section 41 of the Terrorism Act 2000.

He is being held at a police station for questioning.

A residential address in Kent is being searched as part of the investigation.

Kent Police is not revealing where in Kent the man was arrested nor where the house being searched is.

The force said: “We appreciate local people may have concerns as a result of this activity and we are grateful for their patience and understanding while these enquiries are carried out.

“We would also like to reassure them that the arrest was planned and are part of a proactive, intelligence-led investigation by Counter Terrorism Policing South East.”
